PM LAUNCHES PANGU NEXT GENERATION VISION

Prime Minister (PM) and Pangu Pati Leader James Marape has launched the party's "Pangu Next Generation" vision, calling for a nationwide membership drive while reaffirming the Government's ambition to grow Papua New Guinea's (PNG’s) economy to K200 billion by 2030.

Prime Minister Marape has outlined an ambitious roadmap for both Pangu Pati and PNG’s economic future, unveiling the "Pangu Next Generation" initiative as the party's guiding theme moving forward.

Addressing party members at the 28th National Pangu Pati Convention in Port Moresby city last week, PM Marape called for a nationwide membership recruitment campaign aimed at strengthening Pangu Pati's presence across the country and building stronger grassroots structures.

"The colour green must continue. Membership recruitment must continue. The next generation conversation is why we are here," he said.

Marape said Pangu Pati's vision extends beyond election cycles, with a focus on building a sustainable political movement capable of serving Papua New Guinea for decades to come.

"The reason why I picked Pangu in 2019 was because Pangu had structure, had history and had a foundation. We must sustain Pangu from 2027 to 2047 and beyond," he said.

Marape also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to achieving a K200 billion economy by 2030, describing the target as both realistic and attainable through strategic investments in key sectors.

He identified major resource projects, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, tourism, downstream processing, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) as critical drivers of future economic growth.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of progressing major resource developments, including the Papua LNG Project, Wafi-Golpu Project, Frieda River Project and Porgera Gold Mine, while ensuring greater returns for Papua New Guinea from its natural resources.

"These projects must help carry our economy beyond K200 billion and eventually towards K300 billion and K500 billion," Marape said.

The Prime Minister's address signals a dual focus on strengthening Pangu Pati's long-term political future while driving economic expansion through major investments and resource development projects.
