South Pacific Brewery (SP Brewery) has stepped in to support disaster-stricken communities in East New Britain and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville following the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Maila.
The company has contributed a total of K20,000 toward relief efforts, with K10,000 allocated to the East New Britain Provincial Disaster Office and a further K10,000 directed to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville Disaster Office.
The funding is aimed at assisting ongoing recovery operations, including efforts to restore essential services and support affected families as they rebuild in the aftermath of the cyclone.
Speaking on behalf of SP Brewery, Corporate Affairs Manager John Nilkare said the company recognizes the hardships faced by communities impacted by the disaster and is committed to providing assistance where it can.
“We recognize the significant challenges faced by families and communities following this devastating tropical cyclone, and we are pleased to provide much-needed support to assist recovery efforts,” he said.
Nilkare also acknowledged the work being carried out on the ground by local authorities and disaster response teams.
“We commend the Provincial Disaster Committees in both provinces for their continued efforts in supporting affected communities during this difficult time,” he added.
Tropical Cyclone Maila caused widespread damage across both regions, disrupting livelihoods and infrastructure, with recovery efforts still ongoing.
