PM CALLS FOR NATIONAL UNITY & PEACE IN EASTER MESSAGE

Prime Minister (PM) James Marape has called on Papua New Guineans to embrace the spirit of Easter as a pathway to national renewal, unity and peace.

In his message marking the country’s first Easter after its 50th Independence anniversary, he highlighted unity, forgiveness and peace as key to building a stronger nation.

Marape urged citizens to move beyond tribalism and “wantok” systems, encouraging a sense of national identity that puts the wellbeing of all people first.

“To build a Greater Papua New Guinea, we must move beyond our ethnic boundaries and embrace a national love that seeks the well-being of every citizen,” the Prime Minister stated, citing the biblical principle of selfless love as the ultimate blueprint for the nation.

He stressed that forgiveness is essential to breaking cycles of violence, describing it as a true sign of strength and the foundation for unity.

“Forgiveness is not a sign of weakness; it is the ultimate sign of strength,” he said. “It is the only foundation for a united nation.”

The PM also said peace must go beyond the absence of conflict, calling for justice, safety and respect in communities.

He reminded citizens that national healing requires collective effort, urging reflection and personal change as the country looks to the future.
