Noise Pollution and Traffic accidents remains the most reported cases in the National Capital District since the launching of the Festive Season Operation last week.
This was highlighted by National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab.
Following police communication channels, he pointed out noise pollution as the most reported offense around the city and noted more than ten traffic accidents in the city since the launching.
Met Supt Simatab further stated that the police officers are trying their best to ensure each family enjoys the festive season peacefully by maintaining police presence around the city through motorist patrols.
“With the concept of proactive policing, police units who had received information about people conducting illegal activities such as brewing home brew, selling alcohol after hours, drink driving, or consuming liquor in groups, arrested some individuals while others were cautioned and warned depending on the offense they committed.”
“Last night, we received reports of four traffic accidents: one at Islander Traffic Light, one at Courts Roundabout, one at Gerehu to Nine Mile Back Road, and the last one at Gordons.”
“There were other minor traffic accidents reported also, most of which were alcohol related.”
“Our message is clear: Do not drink and drive. All these drivers were arrested and taken to the police station.”
In addition, he commended the quick response from police reservists who led the arrest of a man with an offensive weapon with the intention of theft and the suspect is now detained in a cell to be charged accordingly.
Met Supt Simatab also thanked the community watch volunteers around the city who had been very helpful to the police.
He added that the community watch volunteers had been the ears and eyes of the police in their respective communities, which had made the Christmas period peaceful.
Meanwhile, he also noted that there are people providing food, coffee, and meals for police officers who are working the night shift around the city.
He said the communities had taken the initiative to come closer to the police to make this festive season a special one for them.
Furthermore, he commended such good acts and hope that such partnership will be the way forward in the future.
“The only way to minimize law and order problems is that we all must work together.”
