GALOMARUBU STUDENTS GET A GLIMPSE OF UNIVERSITY LIFE

Thirty Grade 6 students from Galomarubu Primary School in Rigo Coastal, Central Province, have been given a firsthand glimpse of university life during an educational visit to the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).

The students, accompanied by three teachers, visited UPNG on Tuesday, September 29, as part of an educational excursion to Port Moresby that also included visits to the Port Moresby Nature Park and Parliament House.

Teacher-in-charge Barbara Bukikun said the visit to UPNG was intended to expose the students to higher education and motivate them to work towards their future academic goals.

“The whole idea of visiting UPNG is to motivate them to study and do well in school so that one day, they can end up in universities such as UPNG,” she said.

The students were welcomed by Acting Director of Student Services Dika Iru and her team, who introduced them to UPNG, its academic schools and the role of the Student Services Division.

They then toured several key areas of the university, including the University Library, lecture theatres, academic schools and Forum Square.

For the Grade 6 students, the visit provided an opportunity to see university life firsthand and learn more about the educational pathways available to them.

The school says experiences such as these can help encourage students to remain focused on their education and consider higher education as they begin planning for their future.
