FRASA CONVENTION BRINGS HOPE AND SERVICE TO OLSOBIP COMMUNITY

Over 150 students, professionals, and church members from the Fly River Adventist Students Association (FRASA) in Western Province, are making an impact in the Olsobip community, located in the remote North Fly District.

The students, along with members of the community, have been engaged in a variety of community service projects during the ongoing FRASA convention, which has been running since December 15, 2025.

As part of their two-week service mission, the students have been involved in activities such as cutting grass around the Olsobip Health Centre, cleaning community roads, providing health and educational awareness, and donating clothes.

They have also distributed literature containing inspirational health and spiritual messages, spreading a message of hope throughout the community.

The event themed, “Jesus Will Walk With Me” based on Micah 6:8, is the fourth biennial FRASA convention.

It has attracted numerous villagers who have gathered for morning and evening fellowship sessions at the convention site.

The convention’s focus is on bringing both spiritual and physical benefits to the Olsobip community.

Former Councilor and Village Chief Amina Tup, representing the 16 wards under Olsobip Local Level Government (LLG), expressed his appreciation for FRASA’s service.

He described the students as “light bearers,” bringing hope to the community after 40 years of limited external support.

“Your coming will be our blessing.”

“The whole community in Olsobip knowing Christ brings changes both spiritually and physically.”

Despite Olsobip’s remoteness, the students arrived safely, traveling along the newly constructed pilot project road linking Telefomin and Tabubil.

The road has improved access to the region and made the students' journey possible.

FRASA members come from several churches, including the Tabubil SDA Church, Gii SDA Church, and Kiunga Town SDA Church.

They are students from various high and secondary schools in North Fly, as well as tertiary institutions nationwide.

The association also includes professionals who are contributing to the success of the convention.

Meanwhile, Thomrey Hanhupa, the FRASA Association President, expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped organize and host the event.

He emphasized that the convention aimed to train and educate young people, encouraging them to become more involved in church activities and to prioritize their education.

“This support is a direct investment in the morale, education, and spiritual wellbeing of the North Fly community.”

“By maintaining Christian principles, students can become good leaders in our community.”

Guest speakers, Pastor Glen Mathew Komati and Minister Nelton Barth, addressed the gathering, urging both students and community members to put God first in their daily lives.

They highlighted the importance of developing a strong spiritual life through participation in positive activities that can bring about change in the community, families, and individuals.

Minister Barth stated that only God’s Word can bring change.

“No matter what life challenges we face, only Jesus can fix your problem if we are faithful through firm spiritual life.”

The fourth biennial FRASA convention is scheduled to conclude on December 27, 2025.
