Veteran contemporary musician Peter Saika of Duaka Band was honoured with the prestigious Justin Kili Award during the 2024 20th YUMI FM PNG Musik Awards, recognising his impact and contribution to Papua New Guinea’s music scene over the years.

The emotional moment became one of the standout highlights of the night as Saika accepted the award, describing it as a “long-awaited” recognition for years of dedication to contemporary PNG music.

Saika dedicated the award to his band members and fellow contemporary musicians across the country, acknowledging the role they played in shaping the local music industry.

“I want to say thank you to all my band and other contemporary musicians out there for their contributions,” he said.

The veteran artist also revealed exciting plans for the future of the group, announcing that Duaka Band will regroup after 22 years and expand its lineup with new members.

While admitting the process may require significant work, Saika said the revival marks a new chapter for the iconic band and contemporary PNG music.

The Justin Kili Award remains one of the most respected honours at the YUMI FM PNG Musik Awards, celebrating artists whose influence and dedication continue to shape the country’s music culture for future generations.
