The Cloudy Bay Local Level Government (LLG) election in Abau, Central Province, has concluded its polling phase.

Returning Officer, Bonsey Rid, confirmed that out of the sixteen wards, only Amau Ward held its polls last Friday, with the declaration made that same afternoon.

The ballot boxes, currently secured at the Moreguina police station, are scheduled to be transported to Kupiano today (Monday, November 10, 2025).

The counting and subsequent declaration for the LLG President seat is expected to take place this week.

Meanwhile, Acting Provincial Administrator for Central Mr. Bala Kapa, has praised the successful conduct of the 2025 Local Level Government elections across the entire province.

He noted that Central Province participated in the national government program over the last two weeks to elect local leaders.

“I commend the polling officials for their excellent work in rural areas, enabling communities to exercise their democratic right.”

The Provincial Administrator also acknowledged the crucial role of the Central Province Police Command in leading the security operations during the polling exercise.

Moreover, he stated that all LLGs across the five districts are expected to complete their polling this weekend and proceed to the LLG President counting process next week to declare the new presidents.

On the other hand, counting for the three LLG President seats in Kairuku District will commence in the district headquarters, Bereina.

According to Richard Naime, Returning Officer for Mekeo LLG, the counting will begin today (Monday) and will be held concurrently for the Mekeo, Kuni, and Kairuku LLGs.

“All necessary counting materials have been finalized in Port Moresby, and they are set to begin the process.”

Polling for all three LLGs was completed on schedule, and all council wards have been declared.

Furthermore, Mr. Naime called upon supporters to remain calm once counting begins on today (Monday), with declarations to follow.

Security for the counting will be provided by the Kairuku Police Command, led by Commander Willie Hoiba, with support from the Central Province Police Command.
