The 2026 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup season was officially launched yesterday at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby, bringing together clubs, sponsors, the media, and guests to mark the start of Papua New Guinea’s premier professional rugby league competition.

The event highlighted the long-standing partnership between Digicel PNG and ExxonMobil PNG, which has supported the competition for over 15 years, strengthening elite rugby league, expanding development pathways, and delivering positive outcomes for communities across the country.

Ms. Salome Delabu, Head of Brand and Communication at Digicel PNG, said rugby league is more than just a game in PNG and it is a source of connection, purpose, and hope for communities.

“Rugby league is how families come together and that is how young people find identity and ambition. That is why Digicel PNG remains committed to this competition and the opportunities it creates for our youth.” Ms. Delabu said

She added that the sponsorship reflects Digicel’s mission of “Being Better Connected,” using technology and coverage to help create meaningful pathways for young Papua New Guineans.

“Through the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup, we are turning connection into opportunity and ambition into real, lasting outcomes,” Ms. Delabu said.

The launch also recognized the contributions of players, coaches, club officials, referees, and sponsors, with special mention of the reigning premiers, the Lae Snax Tigers.

As the 2026 season kicks off, Digicel PNG said it looks forward to standing with fans, players, and partners throughout another competitive season.
